Woofcast #180

show picSorry for the delay in getting this one posted, it’s been fairly hectic around here of late.

db at WRR West, Todd in St. Louis for the Wine Run (don’t let him fool you, he went for Trader Joe’s) and Gabe on the track at Putnam Park diggin’ the new JCW Suspension. Plus a short update from Robert in Toronto.

Nice and short for you lovers of the short shows. Don’t worry, we will make it up next week!

Todd and db taking a shot at making a news show.

Looking for gory pictures of Todd’s franken-thumb? It’s in my del.icio.us. It’s pretty nasty, so consider yourself warned.

Wingnut calls in (finally) and reports that the Euro Parcel shelf has, in fact, been crash tested and no one was hurt because of it. We also do a pretty good job answering his question about brakes. We also spend some time talking about wheel sizing.

Among the news, we covered this post at Motoringfile, where I asked what’s so hot about all-wheel drive. Besides wanting/needing it for safety in bad weather or racing in the dirt, why would you want this on a MINI? I’m seeing it as a crutch. Please convince me otherwise, I honestly don’t get it.

Check back tomorrow for Gabe on the track in his R56 and Todd in St. Louis. Plus, a short update from Robert in Toronto!

A little talk about some issues we had during the week as Gabe drove back into Chicago. He wasn’t under attack, it was the air show in town.

If you are an ‘02 to early ‘03 and you have the drilled control arms, you might want to check those out for cracks or bends. You can pick them up at your dealer or any of the fine sponsors listed on the right for a great price and they take 10 minutes with a jack, an 18mm socket and a 18mm box wrench. Definitely worth it for the piece of mind. Oh yea, while you are inspecting them, Gabe thinks it would be a good idea to check for rodents.

Looking for Gabe’s Ortega Highway joke? Woof 66 is where you will find it.

Then our top 5 mods for the ‘02 – ‘06 R53. I think we picked the standard mods, but if we missed something, let us know in the comments!

And, back by popular demand is the zip file of the show. Those of you that might be having problems downloading the show for whatever reason, give that one a shot and see if it works.

News of the week.

After out earlier Skype blow out, we ended up recording on Saturday morning instead. Todd at WRR Headquarters, db at WRR Studios West (that has a nice sound I think) and Gabe from the Indiana Toll Road in his R56.

There was some great news this week from Motoringfile, so if you didn’t get the chance to catch it all, don’t forget to go back and get caught up! Of course, the easiest way to do that is to subscribe to the RSS feed or via email. Follow that link to learn how!

Be sure to check back tomorrow when we talk about our week with the MINIs and top 5 mods for the R53, among other things.

This is what happens when Skype doesn’t work. As cool as it might sound, no I wasn’t calling from Skylab. Yes, skylab is sitting at the bottom of an ocean or something. No, I wasn’t there either. And yes, we tried iChat, it sounded like listening to AM radio through a bad cell phone connection. So really, not much better than this half show.

Anyway, just something a little different for y’all. Enjoy!

Starting off tonights show you find out that db and Todd might or might not wear pants during the show, and that this was not the show for Motoringfile site news. And tonight’s intro done by Michael and Patricia of The Mail Buoy Podcast. Check them out if you are looking for any information on cruising.

1,000 downloads a day? No, Todd lies. We are closer to 1,200 per day, just so it’s known.

Events tonight too. If you have an event you would like us to pimp, use the contact form and get that info to us. Keep it up and we will seriously consider bringing back the Event Cast.

We finish off talking about modding your MINI. Tonight it’s our top 5 or picks for modding your 2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper. Of course we probably missed one or two, so leave your favorites below!

stk-fgr5.gifYes, it’s so hot in the midwest that your eyeballs and the inside of your mouth sweat. Yea, that’s hot!

Before getting into news of the week from Motoringfile, we spend some time talking about accessory purchases, the MINI in general, Monroni stickers, good gas mileage and Disney World. That and the fact that SoCal has cheaper gas prices than the midwest. How did that happen?

Plus, a very cool email shout-out. No, you are going to have to listen to find out. Oh yea, and an update to the About page at Motoringfile.com. Check it quick as it will be changing by the middle of the week.

my-birthday-cake-2005.jpgYep. Our second birthday. Can you believe we’ve been doing this for 2 years? No way it could have happened without you!

Again live via uStream.tv. The show you missed was the show between shows. A few stories about what happened in Amsterdam (by the way, it’s going to stay there too) among other things. You could call it a bit of black roof radio. Sorry you missed it ;) .

Upcoming events you might be interested in. MINIs in the Mountains is happening this coming weekend if you are near Denver. Also coming up soon is the Rolex Vintage Festival at Lime Rock Raceway 31 Aug-3 Sept. The good guys and gals at NYC MINI are tying to get something going that will be very cool and very MINI related. Hit ‘em up for details!

Besides that, we spend some more time, for Todds benefit, discussing the Clubman, especially since we got all the new pictures and video last week.

The live show worked very well this week and I’m fairly certain that we will do it again. We are going to try to come up a regular schedule for doing the live shows. Until then, be sure to keep an eye on Motoringfile and Whiteroofradio as we will announce it usually the morning of.

A very successful attempt at a live show, again via uStream.tv and Motoringfile. For those of you that stopped by for the first show, you patience was appreciated as uStream was having a little bit of problems. The 2nd show was much better, both audio and video.

I am currently experimenting with an audio only solution (not sure Gabe will like that) that might work out better than the video. More experimentation will ensue.

Otherwise, news of the week from Motoringfile plus we answer a few listener emails. Oh yea, WRR turned 2 last Wednesday. Still the #1 independant automotive podcast in iTunes for the last 2 weeks as well. THANK YOU!

If you were one that caught us live, be sure to let us know what you thought below.

Check back tomorrow for more Clubman talk plus we answer a ton of questions of the live audience!

WRR Live!

The show is over and it went very well. There is a very good chance we will repeat this again. Watch this space for a regular schedule.

It’s on! Check it out!

Tonight (Thursday) around 10pm EST (GMT -5) we’ll again be broadcasting the Whiteroofradio Podcast live on MotoringFile. Check MF just before 10pm EST (9pm CST/8pm MST/7pm PST/-6 GMT) for a post with our video feeds and a place to comment and ask questions during the show. That’s right, we’ll be answering your questions in the 2nd of the two podcasts this evening.

Tonight is fairly special too. August 1st marked out 2nd year doing White Roof Radio! So we will also be revisiting some of the highlights of the past year. It should be fun!
