New Wheelchair Seats ready for Paralympic Games
BMW has been a big player in the Olympics this year. First with the Summer games that just ended as well as the Paralympics starting August 29th. Not sure if there will be any electric MINIs fetching track and field gear or electric BMW shuttling the athletes to and from Paralympic venues. We do know that BMW helped in producing a wheel chair seat to improve paralympic basketball.
From the Archives: Woofcast #389
It’s been a slow week news wise, so I gave everything a chance to catch up last week, which means it’s an Archives show! And can you believe it was a year ago that Gabe took delivery of the MF Countryman, since replaced by the Roadster? Crazy, I know. Regular service shall resume next week!
db, Todd, Gabe and Nathaniel and this week’s White Roof Radio. Starting off talking about news from MotoringFile like we like to do. And quite a bit of news too, which gave us plenty of time to become distracted and talk about other things like the Chevy Cruze diesel.
Then it was Gabe’s turn to talk about the MotoringFile Countryman. Expect regular updates about this MINI for the next year! You should also make sure you are following @MotoringFile on Twitter for updates and photos.
156MPH in a Classic MINI
Did you see the video on Facebook? Or hear the story during Woofcast 343 about some fellas from New Zealand that took a Classic Mini out to Bonneville last week?
If you want to break a high-speed record, Bonneville is the place to be. Many a record has been smashed on the legendary salt flats in the US state of Utah. The Bonneville Speed Week is the logical choice – a 1964 Mini, perhaps not so. While the 970S boasts an iconic design, the aerodynamics of the legendary shape hinder any attempts to improve the car’s top speed. This can be particularly troublesome when the goal is to raise the bar for cars with engines with a capacity of less than 1,000 cc. Despite this, it could not have been an easier decision for a team from Nelson, New Zealand.
More information, including some awesome photos and video of the run can be found over at the Project Sixty Four Facebook page.
A short show again for you this week. Mostly talking about auto stop/start and fuel economy plus the boys talk more about the new IIHS safety standards (read the BMW follow-up here). Finally, finishing up with a very little bit of tire talk. Watch for even more in an upcoming Woofcast to get you ready for winter.
More information about the MINI Coral in September at Laguna Seca can be found here. Watch a cockpit video of the worlds fastest classic Mini here and get the full lowdown on the Project Sixty Four Facebook page.
MINI Racing at Laguna Seca
Shasta MINIs has setup something very special for the Grand-AM/Continental Championship races at Laguna Seca.
We have set up a Mini Cooper Corral for the Grand-AM/Continental Championship races at Laguna Seca Sept 7-8-9, 2012 in Monterey California. RSR Motorsports will be running their R53 Mini Coopers in the ST Class. This will be the only time they will be competing on the west coast, so please join us to root them on. All MINI/Minis are welcome whether you belong to a club or not. The Continental Tire Championship race will be at 2:30PM on Saturday, prime time to enjoy the weekend.
We are also told that Brad Davis and his son Robbie will both be competing in the MINI of Charleston MINIs in the Total Performance Showcase, possibly in that super hot B-Spec MINI we saw during MTTS!
Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster for this event. Your three day pass and includes admission, grand stand seating, souvenir program and prime parking in the Mini Corral,
Additional information can be found at the Shasta Minis event page on Facebook
