White Roof Radio – The MINI Cooper Podcast

MINI Cooper Podcasting with db, Todd, Gabe, Chad & Brian

Woofcast #147

brokenwheel.jpgTodd and Gabe bent rims this week. Looks like Gabe actually wins. Click here for Gabe’s Flickr set for said broken wheel.

Did you notice that Motoringfile is on a new server? Super duper speedy and everyone’s feed should be working again.

Of course, news of the week.

Be sure to check out this story about the MINI book. We will be discussing this tomorrow, and there might be a test ;). And don’t forget to check out Gabe on TV. He’ll be giving autographs at the dragon. If you are needing a MINI fix, there is a great list of things you can do if internet is not available, or your favorite site isn’t. And, what’s up with the lack of comments here? C’mon, there is diesel talk here gang!

  1. Ok, here’s my new car history. Some of the cars listed were purchased for my wife so no derogatory comments 😉

    1986 Honda CRX HF
    1988 Honda CRX HF
    1989 Eagle Summit
    1991 Honda CRX Si
    1991 Honda Civic DX Hatchback
    1993 Mazda Navajo
    1995 Mazda Protege
    1996 Ford Ranger
    2003 MINI Cooper S
    2005 Scion xB
2006 MINI Cooper S JCW GP

Notice the big gap from 1996 to 2003. There was a used 1993 Honda del sol in there and that ’96 Ranger was bullet proof. It went almost 200K miles before it was totaled shortly after I sold it.

  2. Gabe, you should put this up on MotoringFile. You wrote about selecting and getting the wheels; this will just be an update.

  3. Ugh! That’s a bitter pill to swallow Gabe. Rather than freakish warm days and blooming buds, perhaps the true harbinger of Spring should be the sight of freshly filled potholes. Then maybe we wouldn’t be so tempted to prematurely “wheel up”. It’s made me decide to delay putting on the 3 Season wheels until the day before I hopefully safely slip out of this pothole warzone and head for the Dragon. Hopefuly by the time I return the patching crews will be one step ahead of me, filling those demons of destruction.
    Yeah . . . Right! I’ll keep dreaming.

  4. The road irregularity that caused it wasn’t a pothole – it buckling pavement due to a frost heave. And it had been in the same spot for years. So in this case a fresh pothole wasn’t at fault.

  5. The road irregularity that caused it wasn’t a pothole – it buckling pavement due to a frost heave.

Man you must have been hauling a$$ to cause that damage on a bump in the pavement! Although I guess a sharp enough angle of impact could cause similar damage at low rates of speed.

I still can’t believe the damage. Lucky it was only one wheel. Did you check the rear counterpart?

  6. As for the new diesel engine technology such as Bluetec, the urea (a.k.a. pee) injection eliminates the NOx emissions that exceed regulation. Honda actually has the internal system that creates it’s own ammonia to mimic the urea in the Mercedes engines. Don’t know why I wanted to clear that up, other than this technology really interests me. I, like DB, am a little obsessed with upcoming diesel technology, as I think it is a much better short term solve than hybrids by a long shot.
