Notice the big gap from 1996 to 2003. There was a used 1993 Honda del sol in there and that ’96 Ranger was bullet proof. It went almost 200K miles before it was totaled shortly after I sold it.
What I find interesting is how Gabe manged to kill the wheel… yet the tire looks completely untouched.
That wheel looks nasty.
The tire was untouched. It sounds crazy but there was no loss of air pressure as I originally thought.

Ugh! That’s a bitter pill to swallow Gabe. Rather than freakish warm days and blooming buds, perhaps the true harbinger of Spring should be the sight of freshly filled potholes. Then maybe we wouldn’t be so tempted to prematurely “wheel up”. It’s made me decide to delay putting on the 3 Season wheels until the day before I hopefully safely slip out of this pothole warzone and head for the Dragon. Hopefuly by the time I return the patching crews will be one step ahead of me, filling those demons of destruction.
Yeah . . . Right! I’ll keep dreaming.
The road irregularity that caused it wasn’t a pothole – it buckling pavement due to a frost heave. And it had been in the same spot for years. So in this case a fresh pothole wasn’t at fault.
Man you must have been hauling a$$ to cause that damage on a bump in the pavement! Although I guess a sharp enough angle of impact could cause similar damage at low rates of speed.
I still can’t believe the damage. Lucky it was only one wheel. Did you check the rear counterpart?
You know how Chicago style pizza is really big? This was Chicago style buckle in the pavement.
As for the new diesel engine technology such as Bluetec, the urea (a.k.a. pee) injection eliminates the NOx emissions that exceed regulation. Honda actually has the internal system that creates it’s own ammonia to mimic the urea in the Mercedes engines. Don’t know why I wanted to clear that up, other than this technology really interests me. I, like DB, am a little obsessed with upcoming diesel technology, as I think it is a much better short term solve than hybrids by a long shot.
