Guys, that was one of the best interviews I’ve ever heard. The true story of how British Mini was cheated out of its rallye victory by nefarious schemers of the French persuasion. Well told, and well done.

    Can’t wait for more.

Agreed. Rauno was a great interview who not only told great stories about the Monte Carlo Run, but also did an awesome job at articulating the essence of what the MINI is all about – from performance to safety. Well done.

Fantastic stories, amazing insights and some great concepts on tuning for the “serious” MINI enthusiast. Now go track down Paddy Hopkirk guys… LOL

  4. bluzeke says:

Good job guys – Rauno was a good catch!

  5. lavardera says:

I appreciated his explanation of wheel travel and car handling. Lots of people believe that lower is better but daily driving is more like a rally than a race course…

I agree with the others. This was a really great interview. I LOVE listening to stories from the glory days of motorsports. Awesome job guys!

  7. [...] Recorded during dinner at ‘15′, it’s Rauno talking about his experience during the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally, which he won, in a Mini Cooper S. If you are missed our original interview with Rauno during MINI United, you will find it here. [...]

  8. The bugaboo with the Mini convertibles is the truly scary lack of rearward visibility. I owned one for 6 months and traded it in on a Cooper S hardtop – and have been blissfully happy about that trade ever since.

My only regret is that when I got the Mini ‘Vert, I sold my previous 4-seat ragtop: a 1985 Volkswagen Cabriolet that ran strong, looked and handled great, and didn’t even fetch enough money to make the down payment on the Mini.
